Bereaved Families of Ontario--Midwestern Region is a registered charity.

There are twelve Bereaved Families of Ontario affiliates across Ontario; our Midwestern Region chapter was founded in 1996 and is independently funded by donations; we receive no government funding. We offer our bereavement support services at no charge to families throughout Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph and surrounding areas.  Our strong community spirit mirrors the commitment made by our volunteers; our support programs are run almost entirely by volunteers who are themselves bereaved and trained peer supporters.

Our primary focus has been the support of families who have lost a child to death; in April 2004, we expanded our mandate to encompass support to all members of the community who have lost a loved one.  Our organization grows stronger every year.  Services include structured support groups, one-on-one peer support, a resource lending library and an annual intensive facilitator training program for volunteer support group facilitators.  We are the bereaved helping the bereaved live with grief and continue through life with a renewed sense of purpose.

All donations over $10 are issued a tax receipt at year end. Thank you for your support!

Testimonials

“I recommend Bereaved Families to every family I meet grieving the death of a child - infant, young, or older.”
--Marilyn Rushton, Bereavement Counsellor, Kitchener, Ontario

In 2001, my husband and I experienced every parent’s worst nightmare when our young daughter died.  Like the dozens of bereaved parents who walk through the doors of BFO every year, we were in the midst of the crisis of our lives and in desperate need of guidance and hope. We found it at BFO.  Six years into our grief journey, we are continuing through life with a renewed sense of purpose thanks to the caring team of trained volunteers at BFO.”
