The Parents Grieving the Death of a Grandchild group is a closed peer support group for parents who have experienced the death of a grandchild of any age. Group members have all experienced the death of their grandchild. Group facilitators are themselves bereaved and at a place in their grief journey that they are capable of giving back. They have completed BFO's facilitator training course and will provide the group with structure and guidance over the course of the 9 weeks.
The Parents Grieving the Death of a Grandchild group is scheduled to run twice a year in the spring and fall. The group runs for 2 hours once a week for 9 weeks. A reunion meeting will be planned for approximately two months after the completion of group.
Groups only run with a minimum registration however individual peer support is available before the next group begins. Group members will need to complete a Grandparent registration form and return it to the office before the group begins. A received registration form does not ensure participation in the upcoming group and if there is a waiting list the family will be notified. All information received is confidential. Once received, applicants will be contacted by the BFO office to discuss the next possible group and any needs the family may have at that time.
The next group is scheduled to begin Thursdays, March 22 to May 16, 2012.
