This is a closed group for children and their caregivers. It is a 6 week program.
Participants for this group are children between the
ages of 3 and 6 years, who have experienced the death of a loved
one. This group will focus on helping the children understand and
cope with feelings of loss. They will find a renewed sense of
happiness through stories, art, and creative play.
At the same time, an education group for the caregivers
will run to provide information on how children grieve,
and give helpful tips on how to help them express themselves
and work through their grief. .
This
support group is a closed format. All applicants and
parents are asked to commit to the full 6 week program in order to optimally
benefit the children. The children's group is facilitated
by Dr. Nancy Riedel Bowers, M.S.W., R.S.W., Ph.D. and
assisted by volunteers who are experienced in working with
grieving children.
Please complete a registration form for children participating in the group. The completed form can be emailed, faxed
or mailed into the office for review. All information
received is confidential. Once received, an initial interview
will be arranged with the caregiver, child, and facilitator
to assess the needs of the child. Please note that submitting a registration
form does not ensure participation in the upcoming group. In order to maintain quality, group sizes are limited. Participants will be notified if they are placed on a waiting list.
